General Lyric Summary/ Context:

In folklore, Prince Shotoku rode a flying pegasus while he went around Japan spreading Buddhism and his organizational system that is still viewed to this day as the foundation of modern Japanese civilization. This song is about and sung from the perspective of the Pegasus.

This song is an arrange of “Prince Shotoku’s Pegasus ~ Black Pegasus” from Wily Beast and Weakest Creature. She is the extra boss fight of the game (a boss battle only unlocked by beating the game w/o continues)

Saki is the leader of the wolf clan which values strength as being supreme to survive the animal realm. How this happened and whether she remembers Prince Shotoku /his lessons is left up to the imagination by design and by doing so it makes the character’s morality and tragedy based up to song/personal interpretation.

[*1] “Yarenai” やれない means “to not be able to do”, but with her tone of voice it’s clear that it’s intended as a double entendre

[*2] Given the Animal Realm in Touhou looks like a modern metropolis, I’m taking a bit of a liberty and translating the gumi 組 in Keigagumi 勁牙組 as group rather than clan, to match how modern Yakuza groups name themselves.

[*3] A pun; 法 (read as “rou” here) means “law” or “dharma” (way things work), but rou also can be used to say wolf 狼. The Keigagumi’s primary animal spirit in universe are wolves, so she’s both saying that “The Animal Realm is the strong are the strong, that’s the rule” AND “The strong are the strong, that is to say, the Wolves are the strongest” at the same time.
